Booking a photoshoot can feel exciting, but also uncertain—especially if you’ve never worked with a professional photographer before.
Most women who reach out to me as a Sunshine Coast photographer for women share the same concern:
“I want beautiful photos, but I don’t know what to expect or how it all works.”
This guide walks you through exactly what happens before, during, and after your portrait session

Before Your Photoshoot
Once you book your session, the preparation process is simple and supportive.
Location Planning
We choose a Sunshine Coast location based on:
- The style of images you’re drawn to
- Your comfort level (beach, forest, waterfall, etc.)
- Light and time of day - I usually will always recommend sunset, midday and dawn can feel harsh or overwhelming
- The overall feeling you want your portraits to have
You don’t need to figure this out alone—I guide you through it.
Styling Guidance
You’ll also receive direction on what to wear so your outfits suit both the location and the tone of your session. The focus is always on keeping things natural, flattering, and
aligned with your personality
.
Nervousness Is Normal
Most women feel at least a little nervous before their shoot. That’s completely normal and expected. There is no need to “prepare” emotionally or become camera-ready beforehand.
During Your Photoshoot
This is where most of the uncertainty disappears.
A Calm Start
We begin slowly. There is no pressure to perform or pose perfectly straight away. The goal is to help you settle into the experience.
Gentle Direction
Throughout the session, I guide you step by step with:
- Natural movement prompts
- Simple posing adjustments
- Walking, pausing, and turning direction
- Hand placement and posture guidance
- Suggestions based on light and environment
You are never left guessing what to do.
Most women are surprised at how quickly it starts to feel natural.
You Don’t Need Experience in Front of the Camera
You do not need to know how to pose, model, or “act confident.”
My approach is designed specifically for women who say:
“I feel awkward in photos”
“I never know what to do with my hands”
“I’m not photogenic”
Instead of rigid posing, the focus is on movement, interaction with the environment, and natural expression.
What the Experience Feels Like
As the session continues, something shifts.
At first, you might feel aware of the camera. Then slowly, that awareness fades.
Most clients move into a flow where:
- Movement feels easier
- Expression becomes more natural
- Confidence builds gradually
The experience feels less like posing and more like being guided through a moment
This is where the most authentic images are created.
After Your Session
Once your shoot is complete, the process is just as simple.
Image Selection & Editing
Your images are professionally curated and edited in a consistent style that reflects the tone of your session.
Gallery Delivery
You receive your final images through a private online gallery where you can:
- Download your photos
- Share them if you choose
- Revisit them anytime
What Makes This Experience Different
This is not about standing stiffly in front of a camera.
It is about:
- Feeling supported throughout the entire process
- Being gently guided instead of directed harshly
- Creating space for natural expression
- Helping you feel comfortable in your own skin
Every part of the experience is designed for women who don’t usually feel confident in photos -but still want images they love.
Why Women Book Even When They’re Nervous
Most clients don’t book because they feel fully confident.
They book because they’re ready for:
- A confidence shift
- A personal experience just for them
- A milestone or new chapter
- A memory of themselves as they are right now
And almost always, they leave saying:
“That was so much easier than I expected.”
